Interesting hybrids...

Recommended Posts

AlexH

Now that the first flowers (& pods!!) are arriving I'm beginning to think of keeping seeds for 2011 (following Lonewolf's good advice that pods produced in the light box are much easier to keep isolated)... but it also made me think that maybe it's the perfect environment for doing some experimenting with hybrids... so I wanted to know any suggestions for interesting hybrid combinations that produce a usable F1...

...some first thoughts were:

C. Annuum x C.Annuum i.e. ...crossing something small and hot like a Thai or Tiny Samoa with something big and "succulent" like a Jalapeno or Anaheim...?

C. Annuum x C. Chinense i.e. ...perhaps crossing Cajamarca with a large Annuum...?

...open to all suggestions, both "serious" and "crazy"!

Thanks!!

Lonewolf

C.Annuum x C.Chinense in all combinations are the easier cross.

Cross-pollination between different species involving C.Baccatum and C.Frutescens are difficult and can produce non viable seeds.

C.Pubescens cross only with other Pubescens.

Just few days ago, I realize that (for what I know) there are not C.Baccatum, C.Frutescens and C.Pubescens with dark leaves; this could be a nice target for experiments

Other interesting experiments involve pods with extreme opposite properties, such as Chiltepin with Big Jim

thinking about the success of Pymenta Elisa the dark hybrids are surely the most wanted!!!

Bella questa! Chissà come potrebbe essere un BigTepin oppure un JimChil od anche ChilJim !?!

Some interesting ideas...Thanks!

...the idea of trying to make a dark coloured hybrid is interesting, but I only have the Pimenta Kathumby, which is nevertheless not very dark... maybe I can try crossing it with the "purple chupe-gascar" (when we discover what it actually is!)

I think also the big/small annuum experiment could be good!
