PurpleJellyfish 327 Posted February 3, 2021 Hi everyone!! My season started a week ago. This years goals: -Production of pure seeds (I'll donate some to the PF Association) -Feeding with organic fertilisers only -Make some crosses -Try to grow one giant plant (I haven't decided yet in how big pot 50 or 100 l) -Statistics (like Rapace is doing) -I already done an experiment with seeds treatment and germination I'll post conclusions later (I'll do another experimemt with C. flexuosum seeds) -I am also writing a research paper about how drying and pickling impact on capsaicinoids (it is in Slovenian but you'll be able to understand graphs) -Post more often on forum Well it'll be exciting year! I decided that I am going to grow more baccatum varieties and less chinense. There are great number of new varieties to me. First 43 varieties are on paper towels and now I wait. I'll post the list later. Well after two days of laying on paper towels my germinator (box with heat source) overheat to 60°C... I lost all seeds. Fortunately I'll replace them. Unfortunately I don't have seeds of Vanuatu and Habanada... I'll try again next year with those! First photos and the list soon... Have a nice growing season Pepperfriends!!

Astug 125 Posted February 4, 2021 Happy start 2021! Have you a particular reason to choose more C. Baccatum and less C. Chinense?

I have to prepare everything for sowing. Tomorrow is "the (second) day zero". Very soon the list!! 2 hours ago, Astug said: Have you a particular reason to choose more C. Baccatum and less C. Chinense? Well I prefer bacatums. In previous years I had too much C. chinense plants so my freezer is still full also I don't eat them fresh, like C. baccatum. We'll see if this was good idea😅

PurpleJellyfish 327 Posted February 6, 2021 I just disinfected first seeds (bleach:water, 1:9). They are in solution of water and KNO3 for the next 24 hours. Tomorrow the rest of the seeds. I have a question... When is the best time to start Tubocapsicum anomalum?

I'll use some tips from this, like 50% shade net. https://ejournal.sinica.edu.tw/bbas/content/2001/1/bot421-10.html

It's a species quite easy to germinate and to grow; lot of flowers and fruits, quite late in the summer/autumn.
