Pink Habanero: unusual flower buds location

Recommended Posts

varg

Today I have noticed an unusual location of flower buds at Pink Habanero plant, not between 2 branches but right on one of them... scratch_ones_head.gif

Oggi ho notato una posizione insolita di boccioli di fiori sulla pianta di Habanero Rosa, non alla biforcazione tra 2 rami, ma proprio su uno di essi...

Hi, Varg.

It sounds a little odd, but sometimes nature is, by nature, odd.

I've never grown this type of capsicum.

Will be very very nice!

Very strange, indeed!

I think that in that place there was a node that for some reason didn't produce a branch.

However this is worthy some investigation

PS. Varg, I modified the Italian translation of your post to make it more readable

You're really right. It seems to be a very rare case. Anyway it's a first such case in my pepper growing practice...

Grazie Claudio!

Sure, I'll try to pollinate it. But I'm not sure the end result because of something goes wrong with pollination during this indoors growing season... scratch_ones_head.gif

I showed the image of the unusual buds to an expert.

Here what he answer me:

The bud "sprouted in an unusual position, not on a node, but in the mid of a branch" is very interesting.

It seems this is a mutation, but it would be very important to maintain this character and to cross with normal genotype.

One of my "stem mutants" produced the same "symptom" sometimes.

It is not so easy to fix this character.

So, Varg, try to produce pure seeds from this plant and document the progress ...

(Thanks ;))
