Pimenta da Neyde fruit with a "baby" inside

Recommended Posts

Today slicing a few Pimenta da Neyde fruits I have noticed a fruit with a baby inside. I know it's usual case for C.annuum peppers but IMHO it's a rare case among C.chinense varieties (only second time in my practice). Am I wrong? Does anybody know what is the cause of this phenomena?

First time it was a CGN 21500 fruit.

It's an event usual at the end of the season.

I'm not sure about the causes, but I think it deal with the develop of a parthenocarpic fruit (without seeds) after a pollination has occurred; the secondary seedless pod grow inside the first pod generated by pollination.

However, you're right, this event is rare in Pimenta da Neyde.

This year I grew ten plants (in isolated place, to produce many pure seeds) and I never found small pods inside normal pods in this variety.
