AlexH 0 Posted February 20, 2010 Today I managed to take time to plant my first "non-peppers" for the 2010 season... At the moment just Okra (variety "Santa Cruz 47") and Sweetcorn (Maize) (varieties "Rising Sun F1" and "Mirai Bicolour F1") (Also some Sunflowers and Sweetpeas for the kids!) ...all are now safely in the propagator! AlexH 0 Posted February 25, 2010 Day 5 of the "non-peppers"... The first Okra germinated today (so it seems the "direct" method of planting is OK! ) The maize is going crazy! ...5 days since planting the seed and the plant is already more than 10cm!!! ...also the first sign of a "leaf"! AlexH 0 Posted February 26, 2010 The "non-peppers" are doing well... the maize keeps growing: And the Okra seedling is "fully" germinated... here is a "portrait"!...:
AlexH 0 Posted February 27, 2010 The Maize had got so big just one week after sowing the seeds that I decided to transplant it today! ...look at the size of the main root!!!
AlexH 0 Posted March 6, 2010 So far the Okra is doing well (at least the 3 that have germinated are doing well)...I'll post some pictures later. However, the maize seems to be finding it to hot or humid in the light box and is developing some brown patches on the leaves... (just on the "rising sun" variety though) ...I'm going to try and move them somewhere else...
AlexH 0 Posted March 7, 2010 Here are a few photos of some of the non-peppers... The okra seems to be doing OK, I now have 4 germinations (out of 8) and the largest plant has it's first proper leaves already well developed... The Lemon tree spent a day in the sun yesterday (even if today it is inside because there is a blizzard!), and some of the buds began to open... ...also some Rhubarb which I am growing in a pot in the garden is beginning to sprout!! AlexH 0 Posted March 14, 2010 Here's one of the Okra plants... they are doing well in the light box... I moved the maize out and it seems to prefer being on the windowsill, maybe it doesn't like high humidity(?) Later today I need to start thinking about some of the others... tomatoes, aubergine, herbs...???
AlexH 0 Posted March 14, 2010 WOW! Thanks Pasgal! I've just planted Tomato (Sweet Million F1), Aubergine, Parsley and Basil (also some more peppers!) ...the propagator is full again!
