First signs of this F1 being viable. It's in a shared tent and these two flowers weren't isolated, so will want to see the majority of the other flowers setting fruit also to be sure. Looking like it might be self-fertile though.

Interesting, I'd only noticed it with "De" before but now I've just searched I see both "De" and "Da". Learn something new every day, I'll stick to PDN 🙂

Thanks, the canopy is spreading too well on this plant, it's sharing a small grow tent so will need some pruning soon. I've been using tiny 1L DWC tubs to try pushing some F1s along quickly, needs daily top-ups!

Just taken a picture today of the pod development. I'm loving the colour combinations so far.

I'll add some photos of my wild seedlings soon but for now a couple more recent crossing project pictures.

Pod starting to grow on one of my Stripey x PDN F1 plants, this one is in an Aerogarden. No indication yet of what will happen with colours.

Have harvested lots more F1 pods on my #stripeystarfish project, this specific pod has really nice exaggerated legs

Quite a few wilds underway, I'm trying to stop them growing too fast by giving minimal feed. Once nearer the outdoor season I'll pot them up and feed them for take-off!

Nice contrasting colours as ripening transitions begin, hopefully something ripe soon.

Yes, the flowers are very pretty with the Baccatum corolla but with purple Chinense stigma and anthers 😍 So far they are the only Chinense trait.

My guess at the moment is this F1 will ripen to orange or red. I doubt any stripes will be visible on the F1, something to search for in the F2 population if seeds are present and viable.

It will be interesting when I have a ripe pod to find out if the smell and flavour retain the Baccatum traits or if it is more Chinense 🤔

I'll post more pictures and details when I get ripe pods.

I now have the first small ripe pod on one of my F1 plants for X034 : Sugar Rush Stripey x PDN

A video tour of the plant showing the foliage, stem and calyx colours as well as the range of pod transition colours before ripening to a light red.

Photos and details of the ripe pod:

20220228-x034-f1-srs1xpdn-p2-first-small-ripe-pod-size.jpg.4db6327cc88c5d71b6fbdb83a47ecbc7.jpg20220228-x034-f1-srs1xpdn-p2-first-small-ripe-pod.jpg.096c4a8d1c5cca1d0dfbf724e23ef871.jpg

20220228-x034-f1-srs1xpdn-p2-first-small-ripe-pod-inside.jpg.475293a7305397d3270ce78a6a71c2af.jpg20220228-x034-f1-srs1xpdn-p2-first-small-ripe-pod-F2-seeds.jpg.cbca101c3c957b3886e933552b1c8ec4.jpg

  • Baccatum looking plant
  • Wide range of colours during transition to ripe at light red
  • Chinense smell/taste on the pods
  • 60-70% heat level of PDN
  • Taste similar to the PDN, less bitter but still a salty hint to the flavour
  • Many bigger pods still ripening on the plant
  • Only 2 fully formed F2 seeds in this small pod, planted both to check for viability

So perhaps solid red isn't the final state. Discovered this one under the canopy today, I need to identify if the striping is revealed during the transition to red or after it's transitioned to red. This F1 keeps surprising me!

Even better, when it is present then it becomes visible in the mid-ripening stage 😍
