In fact, last weekend, I broke the entire farm down and packed everything away for consolidation and ease of access (plan on moving soon) This year I'll focus only on a few personal pets that I overwintered, and MAYBE help a friend flesh out his F2 (if i decide to do that, I'm going to be ruthless, starting around 1000 or more in 72 cell seedling trays, culling mercilessly until I find something that speaks to me) This will only take up a small amount of my time in the beginning. Other than that, I do plan to grow my ONE competition plant for the annual growdown throwdown we do here in the US. For that, everyone voted on Chris Fowler's XL antep aci hybrid. As for my personal overwintering projects, just a couple of (new to me) wilds. I'm sure you've all seen and grown them before, but there's always something special about growing them for the first time. That's about it for me this year. No big grow lists. Just a handful of wild mothers, one competition grow down plant, and MAYBE help a friend out with his F2. My main goal this year is finding land, a home, moving and trying to get the hell out of the metro city area of Atlanta, Ga. Bolivia round two trip is set for early February. There is what SEEMS to be Locoto x Eshbaughii there. 10-13 Calyx teeth of varying lengths as the fruit matures. Intermediate traits of both alleged parents. Going back for a short trip to take a look and confirm. "Gurupica" too overzealous? I think it's catchy, haha After I leave there, I'm heading somewhere else in South America. Not sure where yet. Waiting on a friend for more info. Once I return, its complete focus on our move and probably get back to finishing up some songs I've been neglecting. Hope everyone is staying healthy and safe. The Locoto mother I believe to be the mother, has fruits that I always considered the super hot of pubescens. These hybrid fruits (if that’s what they are) are no exception! Also, that same market in La Paz sold a brown fruit that I haven’t been able to identify yet because it simply will not flower. We have seen plants like Claudio's "strana strana" without anthers, we know of hybrids with female sterility (for example the second generation of C. baccatum X C. annuum) and probably may exist plants that don’t flower because the reproductive system don’t develops. A first for me, so great in the regard I was even able to identify it at all (especially in this plant's state), but slightly disappointing as well due to only being able to find one, and the state of the plant. (no good flowers or fruit for that beauty shot moment). All in all, still pleased I was able to identify it at all. With 80-90% certainty, C caballeroi Feel free to correct me in the even I've misidentified it. There were two plants, one problably is death and the other is not so healthy. The mosquitos in that forest were literally maddening. I went in totally unprepared and without my deet spray. Big mistake. Wading through calf deep water in the forest and constantly battling those flying vampires all while trying to be a hunter and photographer was....well....rough. Haha as for Covid... same as anywhere really... none of the locals really cared, or worried too much, and all of them were fed up with this “pandemic” most folks wearing masks when they felt they should, to enter a bank, or grocery store, stay in business without paying the local mafia their fee etc but back at the airports where “our safety is their top concern” they still manage to pack everyone onto overbooked flights, fail to give inflight service (again because they “care”) shoulder to shoulder like sardines. “For our safety” the random connecting flight where the plane was practically empty was a nice treat every so often. Room to spread out a bit. Overall a very successful trip, but could’ve been a lot better. I’m no stranger to travelers stomach issues (as I always eat local and drink local) and in the grand scheme of things, this one wasn’t that bad.
