This mornig I was seized by panic for a moment when I saw a spot over a young leaf ... no real problem indeed ... I confirm that variegation is hereditary (or the virus transmits thru the seeds), already the third pair of true leaves shows bleached spots.
--- The pods of Purple Tiger or Trifetti look very similar to those of my variegated and ... very different from those of X's and John's ones, thus demostrating that "variegation" isn't a single variety but an anomaly common to many varieties (caused from genetic mutation or perhaps from a virus). However you will wait few time to verify if yours is or not a variegated, leaves shows anomalies early. PS.
JohnF 0 Posted January 31, 2008 I have heard the suggestion that a virus may be the cause of some variegation. Here are some others I have grown. A friend thinks that especially the Thai variegated may be an example of this.
JohnF 0 Posted January 31, 2008 I don't think it's that kind of virus, but rather something that happens on a genetic level. I have never had the variegation spread to other plants either.

-------------------------------------------------------- I do not think that type of genetic inheritance in the sense DNA, but rather a virus settled at cytoplasmic, and heritable through the cytoplasm of the cell mother. There are two types of inheritance: that properly connected to genetic DNA genes and chromosomes present in the legacy Mendeliana also linked to the laws of heredity and much less clear that called cytoplasmic inheritance or mitochondrial derived from mitochondria in the cell cytoplasm transmitted dall'ovocellula in vertebrate cell and the female gamete this nell'ovario the mother plant. I believe that the virus responsible for variegatura of different plant species to be left with a mechanism similar to that mitochondrial cytoplasmic. There is still a remote possibility that these little virulent virus can be transmitted from one plant to another because of contacts cytoplasmic cuts punkcije insect, etc. This explains why accidentally the same virus is present across multiple species and varieties. tribo75 18 Posted May 22, 2008 Ecco qua ...
