Indeed, there are two ways to go. What would be the way you prefer? If you get the seeds for me, I would offer you to send you seeds of Jamaican plants. Would you be interested? Also, do you have any option to get seeds of the Brazilian Jabuticaba tree? The chances are very low, I think. :-)

I just went to their website, and see some more varieties that would be interesting. This Italian company really has a wide variety of very interesting chilies. And I would like to create an "Italian Chili Corner" on my farm. But let me ask you, Lonewolf, if you would like to do an exchange seed for seed, and what kind of seeds you would be interested for. Chilies, or other tropical edibles, too?

I can send any kind of seeds "created" during these breeding attempts, but no one of them is stable.

E' opportuna qualche precisazione su questa varietà [Pink Tiger], anche perché la vicenda è emblematica di come le varietà si moltiplicano senza sosta e quasi senza tenere conto della loro stabilità.

Tutto ha origine alcuni anni fa (credo nel 2009) da una idea del un nostro iscritto Secco (ora poco attivo): ibridare il Pimenta da Neyde con il Bhut jolokia per ottenere un ibrido superpiccante a foglie scure.

La stabilizzazione dell'ibrido è continuata per circa 4 stagioni, con il contributo di molti Pepperfriends; ad ogni stagione erano selezionati come semi per le semine della stagione successiva solo varietà con foglie scure, frutti immaturi viola, frutti maturi rossi con forma a cuneo come il Bhut.

Alla varieta' era stato assegnato il nome di Pimenta Elisa, per sottolineare la derivazione dal Pimenta da Neyde e in onore dell'allora compagna di Secco.

Le varietà coltivate e non selezionate per proseguire la stabilizzazione avevano forme e colori particolari; in teoria, seguendo la buona regola dell'ibridatore di non seguire troppe direzioni contemporaneamente, avrebbero dovuto essere lasciate al loro destino, ma in realtà molti le hanno portate avanti ugualmente.

Purtroppo è ormai evidente che l'ibridazione del Pimenta da Neyde genera risultati estremamente instabili, difficili da stabilizzare.

Tra le varianti va senza dubbio citato lo spettacolare Pimenta Tiger, varietà con frutto rosso striato di nero, resa famosa soprattutto da una foto particolarmente azzeccata; una meteora instabile che ad oggi nessuno è più riuscito a replicare con quelle caratteristiche (vari tentativi non si avvicinano nemmeno lontanamente all'originale).

Molte varianti presentavano frutti maturi con colori improbabili, rosa o aranciati o viola chiaro, variamente striati; anche completamente bianchi.

Queste varianti sono state battezzate con vari nomi, tra cui Pink Tiger [nome assegnato nell'estate 2012] e gHost Lady (notare la grafia particolare, a sottolineare il nickname dell'autore: Host); tutte sono accomunate dalle caratteristiche comuni di essere bellissime, ma totalmente instabili.

Tra l'altro molte di queste varianti hanno la particolarità di iniziare a marcire subito appena mature.

Nel 2011 ne avevo una collezione impressionante.

Ad aumentare la confusione, qualcuno (ora estraneo a Pepperfriends) ha pensato bene di assegnare ad alcune delle varianti "scartate" nomi molto simili alle linee in selezione; ecco quindi il Pimenta Elisir (per assonanza con P.Elisa), il Pimenta Leopard (in contrapposizione al P.tiger).

Il Pimenta Puma ha altra origine, probabilmente da una delle numerose varianti di Pimenta kathumby, ma è in qualche modo simile e si inserisce nella serie dei Pimenta "felini"; prima o poi avremo sicuramente un P.lyon o P.ghepard (il Jaguar c'è già, ma è tutt'altra cosa).

Mi riservo di documentare meglio quanto ho scritto "a memoria", con date esatte e foto esplicative.

Come si può notare, tante varietà e tanti nomi accattivanti dietro cui in realtà non c'e' nulla di stabile.

La proliferazione degli ibridi dimostra solo che molti "ibridatori" non hanno compreso come i risultati si possano ottenere solo avendo ben chiaro l'obiettivo e continuando a selezionare per anni le piante che corrispondono al target, lasciando perdere tutte le variazioni sul tema, per quanto belle possano sembrare; in caso contrario, il processo continua senza fine e non si approda a nulla.

I am in discussion with a dentist to use her x-ray in order to stimulate DNS base changes within seeds of Capsicum (creating mutations). The perspective to the range of possible results is big and exciting. If you want, I can give you details on amount of x-ray and strength, in order to cause changes. If you or some forum members know dentists or other doctors with access to x-rays or mutagenic liquids, then you could do the same.
